Last night, I caught "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" on tv. It was the fourth time I’ve seen the movie, and every time I do, I like it better. I find it marvellous and inspiring that one guy wrote the music, the lyrics, the story, the dialogue, stars in the film and directed it… and did every part of it, brilliantly. About 10 min after the credits, still on the same channel, an ad ran, for Volkswagon. It featured a little nebbischy guy getting accosted at a gas station by an insane woman. The nebbisch (unless my eyes decieved me) was played by John Cameron Mitchell - the creative quasar I’ve been rambling about here.
Tori Spelling has a new tv show starting up.
::sigh::

As I was growing up, I kept a keen eye out for people who were
exemplary humans…. people I could emulate, and who could help me find
my own place in the world. One of them was the mother of a friend of
mine. Her name was Arlene, and she was the most genuinely warm person
I’ve ever met. She held concern for everyone, and was passionate about
connecting with people. She always touched whoever she was talking to
on the arm, or the shoulder, and if you stood back and watched… as I
am prone to do… you could actually see people brighten as she touched
them. Arlene was very passionate about her faith, and about family.
She had a large family and she and her husband (also a remarkable
person) served a mission to England while in thier 70’s. Arlene walked
her own talk, and she’d have done so if no one ever knew it. She was
that sort - a genuinely good person and a true daughter of God. I
learned tonight that she died last week. She’s mourned by a loving
family…. and by every one of those people she touched, myself
included. Than you for your light, Sister.

This morning, on my drive in to work, I passed a street corner that was aswarm with film techies. It was more flannel than you’d see at a lumberjack convention, in a writhing mass of black-spaghetti cables. There was an actress perched on a stool and studying lines, feet daintily well up from the ground. And then there was this one old lady.. angrily shoving a shopping card over and through it all, and mumbling at the invaders to her ‘home’.
